NIGELLA AND HER FESTIVE TOP COAT…

Saturday afternoon was spent with Nigella with one very important mission in mind, that of icing my lovely Christmas cake  – Nige.  Maybe a little over familiar considering I’m going to be eating him (!!) but we’ve become extremely close during the last few weeks.   Myself and Ms Lawson baked Nige a few weeks ago at our own stir up saturday party and he’s been tucked away in the Hillside pantry since then.

Pre-ice I have to say that Nige is looking and smelling amazing, probably helped by the fact that I have been ‘feeding him‘ (plying him) with brandy every so often (read ‘quite frequently‘, hence the first name terms…) and he seems to have been very thirsty! Not sure how he’s managed it but he’s consumed almost a whole bottle of brandy en route to the start of the festive season. Nige is going to take no prisoners this Christmas….watch out Mr Predictable…

So, away we go, jam, marzipan, fondant icing, star shapes at the READY…I was looking for a classy result…and I think I’ve got it…

First up Nige was brushed with some warm jam so the marzipan coat would stick nicely…

Next up the marzipan….

Then the fondant icing…

And finally the ‘styling’, simple white stars, all that’s required in my humble opinion….and how much does it look like the picture – maximum levels of proudness for me!
Can’t wait to try Nige out now, super pleased with how he’s turned out so I hope he tastes AMAZING.  Now then, what are the rules for cutting into a Christmas cake, is it bad luck to try a slice before Santa comes or can I start now……..nom nom nom….
